Rhizomatiks
OVERVIEW
Rhizomatiks（est. 2006, Tokyo）is an interdisciplinary creative collective led by Daito Manabe and Motoi Ishibashi. Manabe also works independently as an artist, creative director, and composer; Ishibashi is an engineer. Moving across sound, image, space, and systems, Rhizomatiks explores modes of perception and experience that emerge between the human and the non–human, the real and the generated, control and chance. Its practice spans artworks and installations, research and development into new forms of expression and media, and projects operating across society, culture, and technology. Rhizomatiks has presented exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan; the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan; NTT InterCommunication Center [ICC], Tokyo, Japan; and Yuhang Art Museum, Hangzhou, China. Its work is held in the collection of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. Awards include the Excellence Award in the Art Division of the 22nd Japan Media Arts Festival for discrete figures（Japan, 2019）; an Honorary Mention in the New Animation Art category at Ars Electronica for multiplex（Austria, 2023）; and the DFA Design for Asia Awards（Hong Kong, 2024）.
