OVERVIEW

1971年 シカゴ出身、ブルックリンを拠点に活動

マテリは自在に物質を操り、驚くべきテクスチャーや色彩を持った超絶技巧的な作品を生み出す。
とりわけ彫刻作品は驚異的なリアルさで鑑賞者に衝撃を与えるが、そこにあるのは表面的な面白さだけではない。
自身が「コンテンポラリー・ヴァニタス」と呼ぶ作品群は、朽ちかけた彫像とみずみずしい果実という相入れないはずのものを半永久的に組み合わせることによって、物理的法則だけでなく時間の概念や物質に対する先入観をも覆す。
