Nir hod:The Jewish Museum New York
January 07, 2020
KOTARO NUKAGA is proud to announce that Nirhod, a New York-based artist represented by our gallery, his work “Mother” was acquired by the Jewish Museum in New York. He made a figurative painting out of a famous photo taken during the Warshaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943, the image of a woman next to the Warsaw Ghetto Boy. Without knowing the original context of the image, the painting itself is merely a depiction of a beautiful woman; Hod takes her out of the tragic scene and brings her to the present day, reminding us that she was indeed a real person.
