KOTARO NUKAGA to participate in 'Art Basel HonKong'

KOTARO NUKAGA is delighted to announce its participation in Art Basel Hong Kong 2024 with a presentation of pioneering Japanese women artists from the post-war avant-garde era through to the current generation: Yuki Katsura, Takako Araki, Saori Akutagawa(Madokoro), Atsuko Tanaka, Kimiyo Mishima, and Mako Idemitsu, together with a contemporary artist Yuichi Hirako.
 
At our booth, KOTARO NUKAGA presents works—ranging from abstract to figurative, from paintings/drawings to ceramics and video—by six women artists who the gallery has long promoted, along with a large-scale painting by Hirako. 

These women artists incorporated then new ideas of art generated in the West into their own styles, while they adeptly interwove Japanese or Eastern intrinsic vernacular history, culture, and philosophy within their artistic presentations, almost as if projecting their own identities onto this amalgamation.

We aim to provide the visitors the opportunity to think over the themes they addressed: modernization, patriarchy, and humanity’s relationship with nature, civilization and religion.
