Tomokazu Matsuyama is collaborating with A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE to launch new items and present a special exhibition as part of the “TYPE-XII Tomokazu Matsuyama project”

June 25, 2026

Tomokazu Matsuyama is collaborating with A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE—an initiative that explores various forms of “ABLEs” through encounters with different fields and industries—to launch new items and present a special exhibition as part of the “TYPE-XII Tomokazu Matsuyama project.” This project seamlessly integrates A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE’s innovative design process with Matsuyama’s multifaceted visual expressions into a single piece of cloth, revealing new possibilities at the intersection of art and design.

This project began with the creation of exclusive items for Matsuyama’s first major solo exhibition in Tokyo, ’Tomokazu Matsuyama: FIRST LAST,’ held at Azabudai Hills Gallery in Spring 2025. Following the strong reception to the project, new coats incorporating Matsuyama’s artwork into a piece of cloth will be released, offering a unique opportunity to wear art as part of everyday life.

To commemorate the launch of the project, a special exhibition for the “TYPE-XII Tomokazu Matsuyama project” will be held at ISSEY MIYAKE / NEW YORK and its gallery space, “MADO,” from July 9 – August 31, 2026. The exhibition will feature equestrian sculptures, a recurring motif throughout Matsuyama’s artistic practice, created using the same original 3D printing technology employed for A-POC ABLE mannequins. Paintings related to the project will also be exhibited. Throughout the space, dynamic installations of vibrant textiles — which served as the canvas for Matsuyama’s reconstructed artworks — will be suspended from the ceiling, immersing visitors in the world of the project.
