OVERVIEW

Huma Bhabha, born 1962, Karachi, Pakistan

Huma Bhabha’s eclectic objects, drawings, and other works based on various historical references have long been an expression of the strangeness of the modern-day human figure. Borrowing from both ancient and contemporary cultural sources, her hybrid forms exude melancholy and humor. Her work exists at the intersection of science fiction, horror, modernist forms, and antiquity, prompting the viewer to contemplate the fundamental questions of our time. She was exhibited at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015, and her work is included in the permanent collection of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
