OVERVIEW

Erwin Wurm, born 1954, Bruck an der Mur, Austria

Erwin Wurm is best known for his often humorous, anthropomorphic sculptures of everyday objects that challenge contemporary notions of what sculpture is. His multifarious practice spans across performance, photography, video, and installation. By transforming bourgeois symbols such as cars and single-family homes, the artist subverts our thoughts regarding material wealth. His work has been exhibited at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017 as well as   including the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Tate.
