OVERVIEW

Leelee Kimmel (b. 1983, New York City) lives and works in New York City. Kimmel works not only in painting, but sculpture and virtual reality as well. The artist makes assertively abstract paintings, and yet nonetheless her work engages in a playful yet conceptually investigative manner with issues of “hidden,” surreptitious, or cryptic representation. She is committed to the formal adventure of abstraction but abjures any comforting illusions about purity or purgative “rigor.” Recent exhibitions include Night Ride, Almine Rech, Shanghai (solo) and Nuwar, Almine Rech, Paris (solo), as well as exhibitions at Anonymous Gallery, Mexico and Simon Lee Gallery, London.
