OVERVIEW

1980年サンティアゴ・デ・ロス・カバリェロス(ドミニカ共和国)生まれ
フィラレイ・バエズはサンティアゴ・デ・ロス・カバリェロスに生まれ、ニューヨークで活動している。紙やカンヴァスに描かれる複雑な作品は、スケールの大きい彫刻と同じように、本質的にスタジオでの厳格な制作によるものである。バエズの作品は、人類学、SF、黒人女性の考え方や女性の仕事への興味が収斂して生まれたものだ。彼女はディアスポラ的社会の中で自己を作り出すためのユーモアやファンタジーを探求する。それは文化的曖昧さを抱えながら生きる術であり、心理学的、形而上学的に文化の侵略から身を護るための手段でもあるのだ。
ハンター大学(ニューヨーク)で美術学修士号を取得、クーパー・ユニオンで学士号を取得。スカウヒーガン絵画彫刻学校で学んだ。
